Rick Benton BMus (hons) LRSL
Trained on piano and violin from the age of 4 and holding a First Class Honours degree and Licentiate Diploma in Music, Rick’s professional career has spanned over 40 years.
At the age of 17 he became one of the youngest ever Musical Directors of a National Theatre Tour with Charles Vance’s Rock Musical adaptation of Alice In Wonderland. He then joined one of the World’s leading musical instrument manufacturers as a Product Specialist, involved in the design and promotion of digital pianos, before opening a rehearsal and recording studio complex in the West Midlands and returning to performing.
As a keyboard player, bandleader and Musical Director, Rick has appeared all over the world, both on land and at sea. Touring extensively throughout Europe and the USA with a number of bands supporting a diverse range of artists including The Eagles, Status Quo, John Mayer, Paul Young, Spyro Gyra, Shaggy, Kim Wide and Skindred. Highlights have included performances at Sonisphere, The Sziget Festival, Chicago House of Blues, Irving Plaza NY, Johannesburg’s Mandela Theatre and many other iconic venues and locations worldwide.
At present, when he’s not on the road or recording with Magnum, Rick continues to be in high demand as a session musician, arranger and Musical Director for a variety of artists, production companies and studios.
As an educator, alongside delivering workshops and masterclasses, he is Principal and Chief Executive of a new music industry education institute based in the West Midlands - Resonance.
